The new VW Golf R Cabrio, presented by Volkswagen brings up the speediest and the most powerful ever created by Volkswagen. We are talking about the first R Cabrio. They wanted to make a convertible hot-hatch, it’s understandable. But from the first glance you can see that the new VW Golf R Cabriolet is based on the old generation of Golf (the 6th generation, given that there are a few since the Golf 7 appeared). Maybe they should have come up with this model, a little later, but based on the current generation… It is true that there is still no convertible Golf for the current generation (the 7th).
Basically, the VW Golf R Cabrio is the convertible version of the Golf R, the last generation. It has the same 2-liter turbo engine that produces 265 hp and allows to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds (DSG standard), top speed is 250 km/h. The performances are good, but not very impressive, given the fact that the Megane RS, with the same horse power and mechanic gearbox is half a second faster. And there’s one more issue: the price. In Germany, the new Golf R Cabrio costs 43,325 Euros. Also in Germany, the price of a Megane RS is 28,000 Euros. The Megane RS isn’t convertible and may not look as good as the VW Golf R Cabrio (depending on the taste), but there is one important thing we are talking about: a difference of 15,000 Euros for
the same dynamic performances.
