The GMC design team took hold of the 2013 Sierra pickup truck and didn’t let go until they had fully redesigned it for 2014. The all-new 2014 Sierra 1500 has new engines with more power and fuel economy, greater towing capacity and payload ratings, and a Double Cab with forward hinged doors to provide easy access to the rear seats. The GMC team did such a superb job that the 2014 Sierra took home the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada’s 2014 AJAC Award for the Best New Pickup and received a five-star overall safety rating, the highest awarded, from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Three engines are available in the Sierra 1500 for 2014—a 4.3-liter V6 producing 285 horsepower, a 5.3-liter V8 that puts out 355 horsepower, and a 6.2-liter V8 rated at 420 horsepower. All are coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and four-wheel is an available option. All of the engines have direct fuel injection, variable valve timing, and are flex fuel capable, running on regular unleaded gas or E85.
Cab and Cargo Box Configurations
The Sierra 1500 is available with a regular two-door cab, the tried-and-true four-door crew cab, and the new-for-2014 double cab that replaces last year’s extended cab. The double cab has four full-size, front-hinged doors that provide easy access to the rear seats and are a marked improvement over the small, rear-hinged doors of the extended cab that could not be opened without also opening the front doors. The crew cab is still the champ of rear seat legroom.
Buyers have a choice of three cargo box sizes for 2014, but the choice is dependent on the cab configuration. The regular cab can be had with either a standard-size box with a 6 ft. 6 in. bed length, or a long box with an 8 ft. 2 in. bed. The double cab comes only with the standard cargo box, while the crew cab owner can chose between the standard box and a short box with a 5 ft. 9 in. bed. The Denali is only available with the crew cab and the short bed. For a complete list of available features, please see the Sierra 1500 website.
As with other GMC trucks and SUVs, the Sierra 1500 distinguishes itself over the competition with a remarkably quiet cabin featuring high-quality materials and solid ergonomics. Add comfortable seats, premium sound systems, and dual-zone climate controls and you have a great place to hang out for work or pleasure. As Kelly Blue Book said, “The 2014 GMC Sierra is a truck ready for work and play, with the power and creature comforts ably doing their part in both respects.”
Since 1936 GMC has been making tough, hard working, stylish, and comfortable pickup trucks. Every 2014 Sierra 1500 comes equipped with this legendary heritage, a feature no competitor can offer. If you’re in the market for a full-size pickup, the Sierra 1500 may be just what you’re looking for.
