The Volvo V60 makes its entry onto the car market with its sights firmly set on giving the all-new S60 sedan model a tough match over the title of “The Most Dynamic Volvo Model Ever”.

“Many of the customers who had an advance look at the new V60 during the development process feel that its attitude is at least as sporty as that of the all-new S60,” says Volvo Cars Design Director Peter Horbury.

No less than 90 percent of the annual V60 production of 50,000 cars will find European buyers.

The response of the enthusiastic customers is music to the ears of the project group, which has always had its sights set on giving the V60 the emotive aura, sporty design and dynamic driving properties of a genuine sports wagon. [...]

When the current generation of the Volvo S40 was introduced in 2003, Volvo Cars had its sights firmly set on younger buyers with high demands on sportiness and premium feel.
A number of distinctive design cues when the model was refined in 2007 took the S40 a visual step closer to the Volvo S80 – giving customers large-car properties in a compact format and with clearly sporty overtones.

The Volvo S40 has a compact body with rounded lines and a clean-cut tail section. The car’s appearance exudes modern design and speed. The short bonnet and pronounced cab-forward stance help create a spacious cabin with generous interior space. The broad shoulders and convex side panels radiate power and emphasise the car’s compact dimensions. [...]

Volvo C30, S40 and V50 now with R-Design

Responding to the substantial demand for cars that combine good environmental properties with exciting design features, Volvo Cars is now offering the C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe models with optional R-Design features.

This development has been made possible by the continued optimisation of the cars’ drivelines. The new C30, S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe all beat the 120g CO2/km limit (119 g for all three models) – even without the previous exterior modifications designed to cut air drag, such as special body and underbody panels and spoilers.

“We’ve succeeded in reducing the fuel consumption and CO2 levels of these DRIVe models by more than we initially believed possible. This has created sufficient margin to equip the cars with the R-Design package and still beat the 120g/km emission limit in all models,” explains Magnus Jonsson, Senior Vice President, Product Development at Volvo Cars. Volvo Cars sharpens the company’s diesel offer. Two entirely new five-cylinder, 2.4-litre turbo diesels give the customers the attractive possibility to combine more power with class-leading fuel consumption and CO2-emissions:

  • The high-performance, twin-turbo D5 with 205 hp and 420 Nm of torque.
  • The medium-performance, single-turbo 2.4D with 175 hp and 420 Nm of torque.

Both engines are available in the Volvo S80, Volvo V70, Volvo XC60 and Volvo XC70 from the spring of 2009.

Volvo Uses Sun Simulation To Ensure Low Interior Emissions In Cars

VolvoAll new models are verified as if they were parked in Mediterranean sun, to measure the interior emissions in 65º Centigrade. In this temperature, normally, interior materials would release harmful emissions. But Volvo has minimised harmful emissions in the car interior, by using allergy-friendly textiles and carefully chosen materials.

There are no societal standards for in-car air, so Volvo Cars has created its own in-car air quality requirements that are used when developing new Volvo models.

To fulfil the Volvo requirements, all interior textiles are Oeko-Tex certified, and other interior materials, components and systems have to pass strict tests both at the suppliers’ and at Volvo Cars Material Laboratory. “Interior trim materials are not approved for use in our car interiors until they pass our strict tests”, explains Patrik Libander, responsible for interior material tests at Volvo Cars. Volvo XC60

The Volvo XC60 crossover has been awarded the What Car? SUV of the Year at the magazine’s prestigious 2009 Awards. The Volvo XC60 is following in the successful foot steps of the larger seven-seat XC90, which was awarded the same title at the magazine’s awards in 2003 and 2004.

Up against fierce competition in the SUV class, the XC60 2.4D SE impressed the What Car? judges with its comfort, durability, safety and class-leading refinement. The judges commented “The ride is smooth, so you glide over bumps in the road as though they were never there, and it feels secure and composed in a set of bends thanks to strong grip and impressive body control. Refinement is class-leading, too; there’s barely any road noise, wind noise is well isolated, and although there’s a distant rumble from the 2.4-litre diesel engine as you accelerate, it’s not enough to spoil the calm.”  [...]
