Volvo C30, S40 and V50 now with R-Design
Posted on 23. Apr, 2009 by admin.
Responding to the substantial demand for cars that combine good environmental properties with exciting design features, Volvo Cars is now offering the C30, S40 and V50 DRIVe models with optional R-Design features.
This development has been made possible by the continued optimisation of the cars’ drivelines. The new C30, S40 and V50 1.6D DRIVe all beat the 120g CO2/km limit (119 g for all three models) – even without the previous exterior modifications designed to cut air drag, such as special body and underbody panels and spoilers.
“We’ve succeeded in reducing the fuel consumption and CO2 levels of these DRIVe models by more than we initially believed possible. This has created sufficient margin to equip the cars with the R-Design package and still beat the 120g/km emission limit in all models,” explains Magnus Jonsson, Senior Vice President, Product Development at Volvo Cars. Volvo Uses Sun Simulation To Ensure Low Interior Emissions In Cars
Posted on 28. Jan, 2009 by admin.
All new models are verified as if they were parked in Mediterranean sun, to measure the interior emissions in 65º Centigrade. In this temperature, normally, interior materials would release harmful emissions. But Volvo has minimised harmful emissions in the car interior, by using allergy-friendly textiles and carefully chosen materials.
There are no societal standards for in-car air, so Volvo Cars has created its own in-car air quality requirements that are used when developing new Volvo models.
To fulfil the Volvo requirements, all interior textiles are Oeko-Tex certified, and other interior materials, components and systems have to pass strict tests both at the suppliers’ and at Volvo Cars Material Laboratory. “Interior trim materials are not approved for use in our car interiors until they pass our strict tests”, explains Patrik Libander, responsible for interior material tests at Volvo Cars. New VolvoXC60 is a 2009 WHAT CAR? Winner
Posted on 23. Jan, 2009 by admin.

The Volvo XC60 crossover has been awarded the What Car? SUV of the Year at the magazine’s prestigious 2009 Awards. The Volvo XC60 is following in the successful foot steps of the larger seven-seat XC90, which was awarded the same title at the magazine’s awards in 2003 and 2004.
Up against fierce competition in the SUV class, the XC60 2.4D SE impressed the What Car? judges with its comfort, durability, safety and class-leading refinement. The judges commented “The ride is smooth, so you glide over bumps in the road as though they were never there, and it feels secure and composed in a set of bends thanks to strong grip and impressive body control. Refinement is class-leading, too; there’s barely any road noise, wind noise is well isolated, and although there’s a distant rumble from the 2.4-litre diesel engine as you accelerate, it’s not enough to spoil the calm.” [...]
