Toyota Takes a Beating

The immense wave of controversy, now in its second month, over alleged unintended acceleration in Toyota vehicles is having impacting consumer sentiment negatively, according to market research firm Decision Analyst. 

Toyota has become less appealing to 53 percent of Americans, while at the same time 29 percent of Americans view Ford as having increased its appeal. Those were key findings contained in the firm’s New Vehicle Brand Barometer Study of 4,294 American consumers. 

Those are the “high-line” results, and less apparent are the competitive eddies swirling around all automotive brands today that are also impacting the scene. In addition to Ford, Chevrolet and Honda have also gained stature with the consumer populace over the past few years, and Chrysler joined Toyota as the only other net loser. (Chrysler’s loss was not nearly on the magnitude of Toyota’s fall from grace.) [...]

Toyota today unveiled the FT-CH dedicated hybrid concept at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. Toyota Announces Pricing on 2010 Models

2008 Toyota Avalon LimitedToyota announced manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) today for the 2010 Avalon full-size sedan, Yaris subcompact, FJ Cruiser off-road sport utility vehicle (SUV), Highlander mid-size SUV, RAV4 compact SUV, and the Tacoma pickup truck. The 2010 models will begin arriving at dealerships in August, with the exception of Highlander (September).

The 2010 FJ Cruiser, the most capable off-road SUV in the Toyota line-up, will feature several upgrades, including dual VVT-i and roller rocker arms on the 4.0-liter V6, which add 19 horsepower and a one mpg increase. Minor suspension changes reduce the turning radius by more than a foot, and a new Army Green exterior color is offered. The base MSRP for FJ Cruiser will range from $23,680 for the 2WD automatic to $25,270 for the 4WD automatic, an increase of $360, or 1.4-1.5 percent. [...]

Toyota announced the launch in Japan today of the third-generation “Prius”, which combines superior environmental performance with improved driving pleasure.

Like its predecessors, the new Prius remains worthy of its name—Latin for “to go before”—by being equipped with the latest in TMC hybrid and other environmentally friendly technology.

Its Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) has been more-than-90-percent designed anew and synergizes with one of the best aerodynamic performances in the world. This synergy combines with other advances to achieve a world-leading1 fuel efficiency of 38.0km/l2, while providing driving performance on par with that offered by a vehicle with a larger 2.4-liter engine. Toyota Announces Prices for 2010 Sienna

Toyota today announced manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP) for the 2010 Sienna van will remain unchanged from 2009 model year prices. Sienna carries over unchanged for 2010 and will arrive at dealerships later this month.

The Sienna is available in four model grades: CE, LE, XLE and the top-of-the-line Limited. All four models come in front-wheel drive and the LE, XLE, and Limited are also available in all-wheel-drive. The CE and LE are available in both seven- and eight-passenger configurations; others are seven-passenger models. [...]
