Hyundai Veloster Gets Turbocharged Engine

Hyundai introduced the all-new 2013 Veloster Turbo armed with 201 horsepower in a world debut at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Veloster Turbo is one bookend to Hyundai’s turbocharged sports coupe line-up, paired with the refreshed 274 horsepower, rear-wheel drive 2013 Genesis Coupe 2.0T (Turbo) also debuting at the show today.

The 2013 Veloster Turbo arrives in the Summer of 2012, facing off against worthy competitors such as the Volkswagen GTI, Honda Civic Si and Mini Cooper/Clubman S with a better power-to-weight ratio than all of them, and a unique sport-tuned steering and suspension hardware set. Continue Reading →

2012 Hyundai i30 SX Review

The Hyundai i30 SX is the Korean manufacturer’s latest offering in what is gradually becoming a tougher and tougher small car market. The i30 SX aims to strike a chord among Australian buyers, trying to persuade them to turn away from bigger cars in favour of smaller, more efficient runners.

The SX is one of three i30s hatchbacks currently available, the other two being the SLX and range topping SR. Three i30 wagons are also available; the SX, SLX and Sportswagon.

All the models in the i30 range come with a choice of three 4-cylinder engines. The first is the 1.6 litre petrol engine, which gives 89kW of power and 153Nm of torque. The 2.0 litre gives 105kW of power and 185Nm of torque.  The 1.6 litre Common Direct Rail Injection (CDRI) gives 85kW of power and 235Nm of torque. Continue Reading →

Hyundai Genesis Hurricane SC Coming To SEMA

To showcase the extreme power of Hyundai’s most popular performance car, Hyundai teamed up with Magnuson Products, Rhys Millen Racing, Harman International and Torvec Inc. to develop and build a special edition prototype Genesis Coupe, the Genesis Hurricane SC.  HATCI, Hyundai’s design, technology and engineering branch, will display the high-performance Genesis Coupe in Hyundai’s 2011 SEMA Show booth from November 1-4, 2011 in Las Vegas.

The Genesis Hurricane SC represents a two year development effort by HATCI, as its engineers worked to enhance all aspects of the vehicle including power, traction, braking, exterior and interior design and audio system.  Highlighting the performance modifications, HATCI teamed up with Magnuson Products to supercharge Genesis Coupe’s 3.8L V-6 engine with a liquid to air intercooler, producing more than 450 horsepower. 2011 Hyundai Sonata Named “Top Safety Pick” by IIHS

Today, the all-new 2011 Hyundai Sonata joins an elite group of motor vehicles as a “Top Safety Pick” of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This award is only given to those vehicles that do a superior job protecting people in front, side, rear and rollover crashes. A car’s ability to handle itself in these crashes is determined by how many “GOOD” ratings it receives in each of the IIHS tests.
