Ralph Lauren’s Amazing Car Collection

Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Ralph Lauren is one of the world’s most successful fashion designers and a multi-billionaire. Ralph claims that many of his iconic designs have been inspired by his love of cars. Over the years, he has also built one of the best car collections ever assembled.

In this article we take a closer look at that amazing collection of automobiles.

Ralph’s Ruf CTR-3 Clubsport and Porsche 911 GT3 RS

The CTR-3 is Ralph’s latest acquisition and is actually a £500,000 Porsche Cayman that has been upgraded by the German tuning company, Ruf. This beast of a car will reach a maximum speed of 230mph and will get to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds. Ruf managed to tweak the Cayman’s 3.8 litre flat six engine to produce a frightening 750bhp.

Ralph is a big fan of Porsches and he also owns a 911 GT3 RS which is the most refined issue of the 997 911. With its stripped-out cabin, semi-slick tyres and its roll cage, the GT3 RS is one of the best track cars money can buy.

Ralph’s Ferrari 430 Scuderia

The 430 Scuderia is a track-spec Ferrari that doesn’t even have carpet fitted and weighs in at more than 100kg lighter than the regular 430. Its mid-centre 4.2 litre V8 engine generates 510bhp which is enough for the Scuderia to match even the Enzo hypercar on the track.

Ralph’s Vintage Cars

As well as his collection of cutting edge high-performance cars, Ralph also has a large collection of vintage cars including Ferraris, Bentleys and Bugattis. In 2011 Ralph exhibited 17 of his favourite classic cars in a Paris show entitled ‘Arts of Automobile’. His extensive collection includes the legendary 1958 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa, which is probably the most valuable Ferrari on the planet as only 34 were ever built.

Ralph’s McLaren F1 LM

Although the F1 has now been superseded by the P1, it is still one of the most coveted and fastest hypercars. The LM version is even more special being one of only five Le Mans cars which have been converted back to road use following their amazing win. All five are coloured Papaya Orange.

Ralph’s 954 Jaguar D-Type

Lauren’s D-Type is very similar to the ones that won Le Mans three times in a row in the 1950s. Because of its revolutionary stabilising fin and its aerodynamic design, this D-Type could reach a maximum speed of 173mph down the Mulsanne Straight. This was over 10mph faster than the contemporary Ferraris. The D-Type paved the way for the release of the iconic E-Type Jag.

Ralph also owns a Jaguar XKSS which is a road-going model of the D-Type. Only 16 were ever made, and they were all fitted with a convertible roof, a road-worthy windscreen and an extra seat.

His Jag collection doesn’t end there, either; also in the garage is a classic 1948 XK120, so named because its top speed was 120mph, the fastest in the world at the time.

Ralph’s Mercedes 300SL

The 300SL is Mercedes’ infamous Gullwing car from the mid-1950s. It is stunning in appearance but is notoriously tricky to drive. The 300SL began as a coupé in 1954 but was re-invented as a roadster three years later.

Ralph’s 1938 Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Mille Miglia Roadster

Only four of this super rare car were ever made, and Ralph Lauren is the lucky owner of one of them. What he paid for it, no one knows, but the mind boggles. The 2900B was built especially for the classic Mille Miglia race, a thousand mile race along the roads of Italy. The race was run from 1927 until 1957. One of the four 8Cs won the race and one came second. No one knows which of the four Ralph owns.

Ralph’s Mercedes SSK

This is a very important car historically, being the final car that Ferdinand Porsche designed before setting up on his own. The SSK was a highly-respected sports car in its day and was fitted with a legendary supercharged 7 litre, 6 cylinder engine.

This is a just a small selection of Ralph Lauren’s enormous classic car collection, the value of which can only be estimated, but it must be well over £100 million. Despite being 74 years of age now, Ralph continues to add to his collection.
