Harley Davidson Iron 883

With a defiant attitude embracing the pure essence of riding, the new Iron 883 model is the latest Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycle.

Harley-Davidson Sportster motorcycles like the Iron 883 have stood against the grain since their introduction in 1957, when the modern rebel culture was being bred from restless veterans and hot rod pioneers. Sportster motorcycles became the starting point for many legendary choppers of the 1960s, while also getting pumped up for championship dirt racing and dare devil stunt riding in the 1970s.

The Iron 883 model continues that rebellious tradition with responsive handling, smooth clutch effort and durable carbon reinforced drive belt while pushing the styling of motorcycling minimalism to the edge. Decked in black from fender-to-fender, the new Harley-Davidson Iron 883 motorcycle brings the beat of an 883 Evolution engine backed up by a combo of gritty, old-school garage features like front fork gaiters, drag style handlebar and side-mount license plate holder. A ticket to ride the Iron 883 starts at just $7,899 MSRP, leaving plenty of freedom for customization.

“The Iron 883 defies the plastic conventions of other motorcycles at this price,” said Mark-Hans Richer, Harley-Davidson Chief Marketing Officer. “It’s got old school style, a new school ride and gives the owner a platform for creative customization.”

The black powder-coated 883cc Evolution powertrain with black covers takes the Iron 883 deep into the heart of darkness. With Electronic Sequential Port Fuel Injection (ESPFI) and performance tuning with a broad torque curve, the Iron 883 delivers plenty of power for the city scene. The pipes on the straight cut shorty dual exhaust flow the distinctive Harley-Davidson V-Twin sound.

The black chopped rear fender with its combination stop/turn/tail lights shows more of the 150 mm rear tire and black, 13-spoke cast aluminum wheel, while the front tire also rides on a black wheel. The rest of the Iron 883 gets a darker-suited presence with black front forks and fender supports, fuel tank, oil tank cover, belt guard, drag style handlebar and mid mount foot controls.

A one-piece, solo classic seat with a height of 25.3 inches fits the lone rider, while a passenger seat and a backrest in complementing black finishes can be added as accessories.

As the latest of the Harley-Davidson Dark Custom motorcycles, the Iron 883 is stripped down and ripe for custom creativity. Dark Custom motorcycle riders have the youngest average age for Harley-Davidson buyers. Soul mates of the Iron 883 include the Nightster, Night Train, Cross Bones, Fat Bob and Street Bob motorcycles. I am drooling at this picture. I have a 1982 Honda CX 500 that I ride but every time I see a Harley go by, I turn green with envy. This newest release by Harley looks lean and mean. I’ll have to visit the local Harley shop to see if they have this one in the store.

I remember when I was still on college, one of my friends own a Harley Davidson and we would start drooling over it. I wish that that was mine but all I could do is to hope.

Seeing this new model, I just don’t know what I should do to stop drooling and finally own it.

You can buy the Iron as the 883 and either bore the engine out to a 1200cc or get an upgrade through the dealer.

I will have to buy one so I can ride “deep into the heart of darkness”……..What BS!!!!

Harley is barely hanging on with there WE ARE BEST ATTITUDE..!!!…Jap Cruisers are killing them in sales, Victory is hurting them too. Along with all the other after market Harley builders. Whom actually build better bikes than Harley.

Have been riding 40 years newest Harley I have is a 49, 56, 57 Panheads. Home built Shovel. All Run Perfect !!

Bought a new Superglide in June 2003 after 957 miles I unloaded it what a piece of “JUNK”

I’ve had my Iron for six weeks and it is sensational. Power was ok for me after smaller jappas but I did a few extras and now it is a seriously great machine. Screamin’ Eagle mufflers (black), Heavy Breather air filter and Pro Tuner. Not too noisy but that great deep HD sound and idling at the lights a real head turner with that lurching thing where is feels like it’s about the stall but never does. I promise you this is a very sweet machine and a stroke of genius from HD as they are selling like crazy. Add the 1200 kit and tehre is not a big twin on the road that can get near it (already it is much quicker than any of the Twins my friends have got). Only downside is it is so low that it’s easy to scrape the feelers on the footpegs in fast turns.

I’ve owned my 2010 Iron for three months now and I couldn’t be more pleased in every aspect. I am 6′2, 190lbs and with forward controls I am perfectly comfortable using the bike for what I bought it for – cruising around town and an hour or so in each direction on the interstate. I put the Vance and Hines short shots, buckshot exhaust covers and silencer grips and pegs and I still find myself just staring at this bike with pleasure. I work on a large Naval Air Station and the pilots and techs alike gather around when I pull up. Women love it. Some of my older buddies and biker posers can display varying degree’s of condescension and it’s kind of funny and pathetic to listen to the b.s. I’d trade this bike for nothing – it is the balls. Go get one if you can find one because there’s a wait list in this area.
