Audi e-Tron Concept StudyAudi presents the highlight of the IAA 2009: the e-tron, a high-performance sports car with a purely electric drive system. Four motors – two each at the front and rear axles – drive the wheels, making the concept car a true quattro. Producing 230 kW (313 hp) and 4,500 Nm (3,319.03 lb-ft) of torque, the two-seater accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h (0 – 62.14 mph) in 4.8 seconds, and from 60 to 120 km/h (37.28 – 74.56 mph) in 4.1 seconds. The lithium-ion battery provides a truly useable energy content of 42.4 kilowatt hours to enable a range of approximately 248 kilometers, or 154 miles. [...]

2010 Lexus RX 450hLexus today announced Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Prices (MSRP) for the 2010 IS 250 and IS 350 luxury sport sedans, IS 250 C and IS 350C luxury hard-top convertibles, IS F high performance sedan, SC 430 hardtop convertible, RX 350 luxury utility vehicle, RX 450h luxury hybrid utility vehicle and LX 570 premium luxury utility vehicle, which will arrive at dealerships later this month. The MSRPs do not include a delivery, processing and handling fee of $875.

Lexus Enform with Safety Connect is an all-new telematics system available by subscription. Safety Connect alone is standard on non-navigation equipped IS 250, IS 350, IS F, IS 250C, IS 350C, RX 350 and RX 450h. Lexus Announces Pricing for 2010 HS 250h

2010 Lexus HS 250hLexus today announced the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the new HS 250h hybrid, which has the best combined EPA mpg rating of any luxury vehicle in the U.S.

The 2010 HS 250h, Lexus’ first dedicated hybrid and the fourth offering in its lineup, is available in standard and Premium models. The standard version will have an MSRP of $34,200, while the Premium model will carry an MSRP of $36,970. They will arrive at dealerships in late August. The MSRPs do not include a delivery, processing and handling fee of $875.

Both models, which emit 70 percent fewer smog-forming emissions than the average new car, received EPA-estimated ratings of 35 mpg city and 34 mpg on the highway for a combined 35 mpg utilizing regular 87-octane gasoline . The HS 250h has the best combined EPA mpg rating of any luxury vehicle in the U.S. and its MSRP is nearly $10,000 less than one of its entry luxury sedan segment competitors. [...]

Nissan’s Plan for Zero-Emissions Vehicles

NissanNissan today said it has been conditionally approved by the U.S. Department of Energy for a $1.6 billion loan to modify its Smyrna, Tenn., manufacturing plant to produce zero-emissions vehicles and state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery packs to power them.

The loan, announced by the U.S. Department of Energy, is among the first three loans under the Advanced Technology Vehicles Manufacturing Loan Program (ATVMLP), a $25-billion program authorized by Congress under Section 136 of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. The loan will help Nissan produce electric vehicles, which emit no gases and are powered only by electricity. [...]

Prices for the most efficient version of Volkswagen’s luxury off-road vehicle start at £34,150 on the road RRP for the entry level model and rise to £37,545 for the SE.

The Volkswagen Touareg BlueMotion is fitted with a more efficient version of the standard car’s 3.0-litre V6 TDI common rail diesel engine which develops 225 PS and 550 Nm of torque, and drives through a six-speed automatic tiptronic gearbox. As with all models in the Volkswagen range wearing the BlueMotion badge, a number of modifications have been made to improve efficiency. Changes include revised aerodynamics, an optimised engine including a more efficient alternator, low rolling resistance tires and a ride height lowered by 25 mm to reduce drag. [...]

Like its predecessors, the new Prius remains worthy of its name—Latin for “to go before”—by being equipped with the latest in TMC hybrid and other environmentally friendly technology.

Its Toyota Hybrid System II (THS II) has been more-than-90-percent designed anew and synergizes with one of the best aerodynamic performances in the world.
